Frequently asked
questions

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes! We're currently welcoming new patients and can typically schedule an initial evaluation within 1–2 weeks. Book online or call us to get started.

Do I need a referral?

Most patients can schedule directly without a referral. Just book online or call us to get started.

What's the difference between a PMHNP and a psychiatrist?

A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner holds an advanced practice nursing degree with specialized psychiatric training. PMHNPs can independently diagnose mental health conditions and prescribe medications β€” covering the same essential functions as a psychiatrist for the vast majority of patients, often with shorter wait times and more personal attention. The key distinction: psychiatrists hold a medical doctorate (MD or DO) and are uniquely qualified to perform official diagnostic evaluations required for disability determinations, specialized programs, and certain legal or institutional assessments. If you need that level of documentation, we’ll let you know upfront and connect you with the right resource.

Do you provide therapy?

Well-I-AM focuses specifically on psychiatric medication management β€” not talk therapy. We strongly encourage clients to have a therapist as part of their care team and can provide referrals to excellent therapists in the area.

How does telehealth work?

After booking, you'll receive a secure link for your video appointment. It works on any phone, tablet, or computer with a camera. All video sessions use HIPAA-compliant, encrypted platforms.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

A list of your current medications (including supplements), any prior psychiatric records if available, and β€” most importantly β€” a willingness to talk openly. That's all you need.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations and no-shows may be subject to a fee. We understand life happens β€” reach out as soon as possible if you need to change your appointment.

Can you prescribe controlled substances via telehealth?

Yes β€” federal telehealth prescribing flexibilities allow us to prescribe controlled substances (such as stimulants for ADHD) via video. An in-person visit may occasionally be required depending on your specific situation.
